Aether Turn Mask

My stomach knotted as we approached the Aether. I had been there before, the last trip was only two days long...but I felt something...something within me pulling, twisting. As I stood at the helm the wheelsman sounded the alarm to don the breather masks. Pulling mine as the ship entered the rift. It was like I couldn't breathe, my hands shook and I ripped the breather off. "Captain?" the wheelman shouted as I went to my knees. "I'm okay, stay at the wheel." staring at my hands, I could breathe, in the Aether. I could see the ripples in my skin, altering, but into what? Lifting my self upright the yeoman gasped. I turned to see my reflection in the porthole, "What's happening to you Captain?" the crewman asked. Touching the face in the reflection I snapped to face them. "Back to your stations, I'm still the Captain of this ship!" They responded to my orders. I felt stronger, more confident than ever before, this, this change, was my Aether power.

I love to write stories with masks. People don't understand that I don't plan out a mask, they just become what they become.  That's why mine are all OOAK masks, they never turn out the same, even if I try.
